After 2015’s Ego Death, members of The Internet have embarked on solo journeys from Syd‘s Fin to Matt Martians‘ Drum Chord Theory and, most recently, Patrick Paige II‘s forthcoming Letters of Irrelevance EP. They vowed to reunite as a unit in order to bring us more genre-defying jams and today the band’s newest single “ROLL! (Burbank Funk)” arrives. This cut isn’t one you sit back and vibe to since the sweeping, stanky Funk dripping from Paige’s bassline is sure to get all feet stepping and every body moving. Steve Lacy shares his mellow vocals to open the song before Syd joins in with the fresh-wind falsetto that only she does so well.
The single arrives with an equally funky video where the guys and their leading lady are dressed in the finest “happenin” and “groovie cool cat” wardrobe, playing instruments as faceless silouhettes and skating and dancing under the direction of Joe Weil. Psychedellic filters and cameos from friends Dev Hynes, Tyler, The Creator, Kari Faux and more are included to enhance the visual’s obvious jam good time.
If you could bring the ’70s to a ’90s backyard BBQ, this is exactly what should be playing. Grab your skates and/or your lover and let The Internet’s “ROLL! (Burbank Funk)” move you.
