The only thing equally as awesome as watching our own Solange in her element during live performances is watching her in element during live performance where she’s surrounded and joined by the friends-turned-family that, in addition to her fans and supporters, keep her going. On Sunday (October 24), our leading lady took Hollywood Bowl for a special night she curated and named Cosmic Journey (2017). Solange and her real-life friends Kelela, Moses Sumney, Blood Orange, Kelsey Lu and KING sonically transported us “to the hills where the love people go” in what was easily one of the most magical nights ever.
The sold out stadium rattled in affirming vibrations as the band offered a sonic liftoff into the live arrangements of some of A Seat at the Table and True‘s standout jams. From grooving front and center alongside her stellar band to making an up close connection with the crowd during her performance of “F.U.B.U.,” Solange’s sonic radiance made for an all-consuming experience. Surprise appearances from both Moses Sumney and Blood Orange throughout Solange’s set were both a treat for audience as well as the duo themselves as they exchanged vibrantly, lively, sibling-like energy on stage. And before the night was over, Solo and her team of musician brothers and sisters offered a radiating closing performance of A Seat at the Table‘s opening number “Rise.”
Cosmic Journey (2017), in all of its astral glory, was directed, composed and choreographed by Solange. But it was the star power of comradic Black magic that really made the experience a remarkably unmatched one. Take a look some photos from Hollywood Bowl’s Cosmic Journey below.
