Watch the First Official Trailer for Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” Netflix Adaption

When we first heard the news that Spike Lee‘s She’s Gotta Have It would be adapted into a Netflix series, we were delighted to learn that he, along with his wife and business partner Tonya Lewis Lee, would direct the now classic’s revival. Since the series’ official first look has finally landed, we’re even more delighted to find that the 10-episode special will tackle tough conversations surrounding the complexities of womanhood in the face of society’s double standards. In case you’re not familiar, She’s Gotta Have It is Spike Lee’s first feature film following the story of Nola Darling (now played by DeWanda Wise), a twenty-something, Brooklyn-based artist facing the typical independent adulthood struggles we all do. While the original was shot in the ’80s, it’s relevance is undeniable and the Lees appear to have found a way to highlight similarities between the former and current coming-of-age worries of Black women.

You can watch the teaser above and the full series when it’s made available for streaming in November.
