Just in case the deeply personal 1992 film What’s Love Got To Do With It wasn’t enough to draw you into the story of Tina Turner, you’ll soon have another look at her legacy in an upcoming musical. The story of the legendary Queen of Rock-n-Roll will be brought to us in song by Netherlands-based Stage Entertainment.
According to Billboard, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and eight-time Grammy Award winner has charted a combined 37 songs on the Hot 100, both as a solo artist and as one-half of the duo Ike & Tina Turner. Once portrayed by the lovely Angela Bassett on the big screen, Tony-award nominee Adrienne Warren will take Turner’s story to the stage. Turner will certainly have her say in her portrayal, as she told The Mail that “one of the most surprising and wonderful discoveries for me in this process has been that my songs tell my story.”
Venues and dates have yet to be announced, but we can look forward to contributions from the developers behind the ABBA musical Mamma Mia, including director Phyllida Lloyd, choreographer Anthony van Laast and designer Mark Thompson.
