When we look back at 2016, we can safely say it was a good year for Black representation on screen. With shows like The Get Down, Atlanta, Insecure, Luke Cage and so many more, the world got a peek at what we hope will continue for people of color in film and television. Films like Berry Jenkins’ Moonlight became the topic of conversation throughout the country while shows like Issa Rae‘s Insecure made us laugh and relate. The priceless gift of watching Black people portrayed in roles other than the stereotypical ones we’ve seen in the past is unmatched and completely unforgettable.

NBC announced the nominees for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards which includes some of our favorite shows, films, actresses and actors, all nominated under several categories. Naomie Harris, Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis were all nominated for Best Supporting Actress, making history as the first three black women to be nominated in one category. Moonlight raked in six nominations including, Best Director, Best Motion Picture, Best Original Score, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture.

As for TV, Donald Glover was nominated for his role in his own hit series Atlanta in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series category along with Anthony Anderson from Black-ish. Both shows, Atlanta and Black-ish, were also nominated for Best Television Series. Our girl Issa Rae and Black-ish‘s very own Tracee Ellis Ross were both nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series.

This year’s Golden Globes is definitely one to watch. Congratulations to all the nominees!! See the full list here.
