Talib Kweli To Perform 1st Annual Arts East New York Gala

Talib Kweli is known for always having timely lyrics about pressing social issues. Arts East New York (AENY) has been using multi-disciplinary arts to address issues in East New York since 2009. It only makes sense that the two would come together for a special event.

On Thursday, November 17, 2016, AENY will host their first ever fundraising gala at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Talib Kweli is set to DJ and perform at the event which will honor Manuel Burgos, Chief Executive Officer, By The Numbers Consulting Services; Duane Kinnon, President & CEO, The Kinnon Group, LLC; and Ella J. Weiss, former President of the Brooklyn Arts Council.

The gala will open with remarks from New York Senator Roxanne Persaud and will also be a 40th birthday celebration for AENY’s Executive Director, Catherine Green, who gave a us a statement about the event:

“We’ve made great strides, but there is so much more work to do. Our 1st Annual Gala will showcase our passionate work as an organization thus far and galvanize our village of supporters to reinforce our future in our goal to raise $100,000. We are enthusiastic to honor Ella and Manuel who represent a few of AENY’s original village of supporter’s and Duane, someone we have long admired as an advocate for arts and education in East New York and Brownsville.”

The gala will start at 6:30pm at BAM’s Fisher Building, in the Hillman Studio, on the 4th floor, located at 321 Ashland Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11217.

Guests can participate in a silent auction with items donated by the Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Natural History, The Bronx Zoo, Strong Fitness NYC, Welcome To Harlem, and Llubtish Media Group. Botticelli Portrait Studio has also donated a portrait session and an 11×14 portrait on canvas at a value of $1700. BAM has donated two tickets to a see a performance during its winter/spring session in 2017 and Brooklyn artist Sophia Dawson has donated some original pieces.
