Solange Receives Webby Artist of the Year Award For 21st Annual Webby Awards

Our leading lady Solange is still shining amidst her busy road show schedule, and we couldn’t be more proud. During the 21st Annual Webby Awards ceremony, our girl will be honored with the Webby Artist of the Year and special achievement award “in celebration of her extraordinary use of the Internet to support fellow artists, especially artists of color, and promote diversity. With her 3 million Twitter followers and through Saint Heron, her collaborative platform and online store for artists, Solange has created a unique platform for collaboration and connection on the Internet.” Joining the ranks of Prince, #BlackLivesMatter and many other influential people/movements, this win for what The New York Times hails as the “internet’s highest honor” was not only the result of Webby Academy judges Questlove, Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian, #BlackLivesMatter Co-Founder Opal Tometi, Jimmy Kimmel, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos (Making a Murderer), Guy Raz (TED Radio Hour host) and Eva Chen, but also the more than more than 3.5 million internet fan votes cast from 235 countries and territories around the world.

Other winners this year include Kendrick Lamar for Best Video Remixes/Mashups for “Swimming Pools (Drank)” (Film & Video), the Women’s March for Social Movement of the Year, Van Jones’ The Messy Truth for Best News and Politics Series (Film & Video), Serena Williams‘ Match Point for Best Mobile Advertising and Best Use of Native Advertising (Advertising, Media & PR). The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, The Ellen DeGeneres show and a host of other winners will take home awards as well.

The star-studded ceremony in New York will celebrate the most innovative, inspiring, and entertaining work on the Internet and will be available on demand to view here on May 16th. Congratulations to all of the winners, but especially to our fearless leader Solange. We’re honored to witness the world acknowledge you for all of the reasons we’ve always admired you.
