Solange Celebrates The Life & Legacy Of Zora Neale Hurston On New BBC Segment

Zora Neale Hurston

Recently, our own Solange took time out to celebrate the life and legacy of the acclaimed renaissance woman and author Zora Neale Hurtston, considered to be one of the pre-eminent voices in 20th century Black literature, on a BBC Radio 4 documentary entitled Seriously...

During the 6 minute segment, Solange reflects on Hurston’s role in her own life and musical career. “As a black woman and as a black womanist and feminist, I felt incredibly empowered by Zora’s work,” she shared. “I remember reading Sweat, actually, and the color that she painted with that story, the scenes that you’re able to, kind of, visualize and the sense of empowerment once you get to the end of the book, just provokes so much strength in our storytelling as black women and our sisterhood and our roles as black women in the world.”
