Prince’s Estate Releases First Posthumous Song, “Moonbeam Levels”

Even after his untimely death, Prince has managed to astonish us yet again. Today his Paisley Park estate blessed the Purple Rain community with the first posthumous song from his chamber of secrets, “Moonbeam Levels.” Just in time for holiday shopping and year-end memorials, Warner Bros. Records is issuing a new two-disc compilation of his greatest hits titled 4Ever.

ABC News held a live listening party in New York City for a collection of lucky Prince fans to hear the new song. An uplifting piano and guitar number, “Moonbeam Levels” is said to have been sitting in Prince’s vault since 1982. It was a product of the 1999 recording sessions, and was apparently part of Prince’s opus Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic which was never released. In addition to the new track, the album includes a booklet of never-before-seen photos of the singer (shown below) taken by acclaimed photographer Herb Ritts.

Though the song may never (legally) see the likes of internet streaming, you can preview it in the exclusive ABC premier above and download via iTunes here.
