PJ Morton is making it especially hard to end cuffing season this year with the musical offering of warm, fulfilling love expressed throughout his new album Gumbo. A native of New Orleans, Morton has mastered the art of “down home,” soulful, high energy music composition that not only encourages your spirit, but stirs your emotions. A super romantic album opener titled “First Began” really sets the tone for the album’s direction which approaches love from a variety of angles including “Religion” and supportive friendships (“They Gon’ Wanna Come”). Gumbo includes previously released tracks like “Sticking to My Guns” and “Claustrophobic” (which features fellow New Orleanian Pell), as well as some new breathtakingly jazzy bops like “How Deep Is Your Love.” Personal fave “Alright” finds the limitless crooner stretching out into the world of synthy R&B as he shares his own tuneful, assuring confidence.
