Pharrell Williams’ creative efforts have always served the people. His selflessness is likely one of the main contributing factors to his success. His new HU Adidas line continues to mirror these same values. Williams shared some of his thoughts on working with the brand as well as finding it hard to believe that he is actually working for Adidas today. At this year’s first ever ComplexCon, he shared memories from his early interactions with the brand and explained that this collaboration was one he never saw coming. “I saved up my first check from working at McDonald’s to buy a discounted pair of Adidas. I’ll never forget, they were the red and gold Instincts. After that was a Lakers-esque mustard and purple low-top pair. I didn’t have enough money to buy clothes, so my mom still had to chip in and buy my clothes for the school year.”
Pharrell’s career is a true testament of the saying “anything is possible'”. The unisex line features unique apparel and technology infused sneakers. One of the HU’s standout accents would have to be the pieces that feature the phrase “Human Race” translated in English, French and Japanese. Williams has not only created music that speaks to the times we are living in, but his role in the fashion world has allowed him to carve out a lane that is also inclusive. He elaborated on the collection stating, “if you’ve got the ambition to just do better, this is for you. [Hu] is not gender specific. It’s not sexually orientated. It’s just for human beings with ambitions of better days.”
