Missy Elliott Pays Tribute to Aaliyah 20 Years After ‘One in a Million’ Release

December 10th marked the 20th anniversary of the late R&B trendsetter Aaliyah’s hit single “One In A Million.” The song which was co-written by her longtime affiliates is a classic in it’s own right, and has since been covered and sampled by many. Missy Elliott took a moment to celebrate the songstress’ influence and timeless sound that will continue to live on.

“One In A Million” stopped everyone in their tracks back in 1996. Elliott and Timbaland, who co-wrote the song, added their trademark flare which would spearhead Aaliyah’s one-of-a-kind sound and career. The late singer left us at the tender age of 22 when her career had began soaring to new heights. Taking to Instagram, Missy honored Aaliyah in a dedication post with a caption that reads,“Time flies! And there’s still not a day that goes by that u aren’t inspiring new artist[s] with your TIMELESS music & style! U will never be forgotten Aaliyah (Babygirl).”

On August 25th, 2001, Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas where she had traveled to for a video shoot. To this very day, her influence on R&B and Hip-Hop remains in tact. She was truly one in a million to say the very least.
