Lionel Richie To Produce Sammy Davis Jr. Biopic

Sammy Davis Jr. was an anomaly. He was Black and Jewish in a town unfriendly to both. In a country that prefers silence from its celebrities, Sammy Davis Jr. used his voice to draw attention to Civil Rights. As a respected singer and member of the Rat Pack, the acclaimed entertainer reached massive success simply by being himself and living his truth every day. And now, with the help of Davis’ estate, Lionel Richie will bring his story to the big screen. The film will be based on Richie’s memoir: Yes, I Can: The Story of Sammy Davis Jr. Davis’ son, Manny, says of the project, “I am happy to tell the whole entire world that my family and I look forward to working with everyone to educate audiences of all ages about our father’s incredible American adventure.”
Lionel Richie shares his enthusiasm saying, “It’s an honor for me to bring the life of one of my idols and friends to the screen. I’m so grateful to be working closely with the Davis family on this and couldn’t be happier to be moving forward on this passion project.”

According to Shadow and Act, there is no casting or production date news just yet but we will certainly keep you posted.
