LeBron James To Develop Series on Madam C. J. Walker’s Life with SpringHill Entertainment

NBA superstar LeBron James is currently developing a television series about the life of African American icon Madam C.J. Walker (based on the book On Her Own Ground) with his production company SpringHill Entertainment. On Her Own Ground draws from over two decades of exhaustive research and “is enriched by the author’s exclusive access to personal letters, records and never-before-seen photographs from the family collection,” as it was written by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles.

Madam C.J. Walker was a pioneer in many aspects of black business, especially in the hair-care industry, and success with accomplishments including becoming the first black female millionaire and the first woman of any race to become a self-made millionaire.

Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire,” said James.

Walker will be played by actress Octavia Spencer and the series will be executive-produced by Nicole Asher and Kasi Lemmons, according to Variety.
