From the look to even capturing some of Ms. Turner’s very iconic poses, Cox hops into character. “The pain, pleasure, and agony of all she’s been through is in her voice. Her story is the story of so many black women who’ve endured abuse and come out the other side in such a brilliant, beautiful way,” shared Cox on her admiration for the Rock ‘N’ Roll legend.

Cox also gave us full on Beyoncé “Single Ladies.” Decked in the unforgettable black one-piece, Cox decided to take on the Queen Bey because of her unmatched work ethic. ” [She] represents excellence… There were so many moments when I was shooting ‘Rocky Horror’, and I’d be exhausted. My body would be hurting, and I’d be like, ‘Beyoncé. Beyoncé does this.’ You have to just put in the work,” shared Cox.

Lastly, the actress and activist chose to embody Tracey Africa Norman. A transgender woman and pioneer in the modeling world, Africa did work for major brands and magazines in the ’70s. “People think, ‘Oh, this trans revolution is just starting,’ but we’ve been around for a very long time. It’s important to know that there’s been a path blazed for me,” Cox said.

It’s always great to see amazing women inspired by other amazing women. This spread truly exudes female empowerment. As we await Laverne Cox’s FOX television debut, head over to Cosmopolitan for some BTS footage of the shoot.
