TDE is already winning 2018 and we sort of saw it coming when news that Kendrick Lamar and Top (Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith) himself were behind production and curation for the soundtrack of Marvel’s Black Panther film. Appropriately dubbed Black Panther the Album, the project contains fourteen high energy tracks matching what we imagine the film’s action-packed storyline will deliver. The album opens with a solo track from Lamar (eponymously named after the movie) which is followed by its SZA-assisted lead single “All the Stars.” Punchy, classic Rap number “X” featuring ScHoolboy Q and 2 Chainz shares shine with Vince Staples’ signature new age, Electronic Rap verve on “Opps,” while Khalid and Swae Lee bring Alternative Soul vocals to the Pop&B production on “The Ways” and Jorja Smith’s slithering vocals scale the gritty beat of “I Am.” Personal favorite “Bloody Waters” is a vibey number featuring TDE’s own Ab-Soul, fellow west coast native Anderson .Paak and the phenomenal James Blake who also appears on “King’s Dead” with Jay Rock (also of TDE), Kendrick and Future.

The album also contains features from Zacari, Travis Scott and many more. So while we already believed in the magic of this film, Black Panther the Album is the perfect power-boosting companion.
