Issa Rae’s Next Project for HBO is a Drama Series Set in 1990s Los Angeles

As part of her development deal with HBO (with a third season of her beloved Insecure comedy in the works), Issa Rae is preparing for her next project for the premium cable network. According to reports, the Golden Globe nominee has teamed up with The Turner House author Angela Flournoy to deliever a dramatic, ’90s-set series focusing on an African-American family dealing with the controversial events of that time. The Reagan/Clinton era serves as a social backdrop for the drama, which, according to Deadline, “will center on the marriage of Sheryl and Jackson, with the former an envelope bounds-pushing real estate agent and the latter a conflicted LAPD anti-gang task force recruit. The potential series will also feature the couples’ teen daughter and son, Ebony and Les.

When asked about working with Flournoy, Issa Rae said, “I was a huge fan of The Turner House and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.” The new drama series has no title or projected release date as of yet, but fans can certainly look forward to an accurate depiction of the city of Los Angeles back in the day!
