Damian Marley Guides Jay-Z’s Exploration of Music’s Origins in “BAM” Visual

Exploring part of music’s genesis, Rap hero Jay-Z heads to the heart of Jamaica in his latest visual for 4:44 stand out cut “BAM.” The Rohan Blair-Mangat-directed video captures the beauty of Jamaican natives, their cities and villages and the heavy influence their culture has had on Rap music. Alongside Reggae artist (and son of the unparalleled Bob Marley) Damian Marley, Hov goes from watching courtyard musicians to chatting in the studio with Reggae icon Sister Nancy who reveals the legendary “Bam Bam” was done on the spot without written material. Tuff Gong Studio (the Marley family’s recording studio) makes a few cameos, as does a charmingly witty moment when an island resident calls out to Jay-Z without acknowledging Damian. Check out the endearing “BAM” visual above.
