Colin Kaepernick Hosts “Know Your Rights Camp” in Oakland

A leader off and on the field, Colin Kaepernick continues to encourage social awareness with an emphasis on inspiring the youth. Six months in the making, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback hosted a “Know Your Rights Camp” last Saturday in Oakland which garnered over 100 young attendees from the area.

Using education as his main platform to combat social injustice towards people of color, Kaepernick handpicked a range of topics including financial success, law enforcement interaction prep, nutrition, self-love, college prep and more.

You have unarmed children being murdered, and you have unarmed adults being murdered,” he told The Undefeated. “So, it’s affected all ages of people of color, and to try to give them knowledge of how to help de-escalate those situations, even though that shouldn’t be their responsibility.”

The attendees walked away with a backpack, a copy of The Autobiography of Malcolm X and a free certificate for DNA testing at Ancestry.com, with the added bonus of t-shirt honoring the Black Panther Party 10-point platform.

Way to be the change you want to see in the world Kaep! Check out his opening speech above.
