Blood Orange Announces Forthcoming Album, ‘Negro Swan’

Dev Hynes has been mostly quiet about the new music he’s been brewing, but now it’s official. Negro Swan was announced early today via Instagram, along with the stunning album art. This marks the follow up to 2016 Freetown Sound, a beautifully jazzy alternative that has kept Blood Orange fans anxious for this return.  Hynes says Negro Swan will delve into the world of black, queer darkness, trauma and depression:

“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”

The new album is slated to come out August 24th via Domino. Check out the equally jarring teaser video below, and look out for more updates on Negro Swan late this summer:
