Beyoncé Presented Colin Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

In what has been reported as a “surprise appearance,” Beyoncé dazzled in LaQuan Smith at the Sports Illustrated Awards ceremony where she presented Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. She, too, is in the number of us who are proud of and grateful for Colin’s consistently unwavering resistance as expressed in her earnest affirmation of a presentation. “We’re still waiting for the world to catch up. It’s been said that racism is so American, that when we protest racism, some assume we are protesting America. So, let’s be very clear. Colin has always been very respectful of the individuals who selflessly serve and protect our country and our communities and our families,” she said. She continued with a reminder of the somehow severely missed (by some) intention behind the former 49ers quarterback’s protest. “His message is solely focused on social injustice for historically disenfranchised people. Let’s not get that mistaken.

Kaepernick selflessly accepted the award dedicating it to the people “because if it were not for my love of the people, I would not protest…” You can watch both the presentation and acceptance of the champion moment above.
