Ava DuVernay To Pay Homage to Central Park Five in New Netflix Series

Ava DuVernay

All praises due to the Ava. The amazing director of Academy-Nominatied films Selma and 13th, Ava Duvernay has shared on social media that she is partering with Netflix for a five-episode series special on the Central Park Five. This follows her previous partnership with the streaming company for 13th, and is slated to be released sometime in 2019.

Though it’s a while away, this is amazing news for anyone who is familiar with the tragic story of the five teenage boys who were wrongly imprisoned for 15 years under false accusations of assaulting and raping a Central Park (NYC) jogger in 1989. The series will shed light on all the vexatious details from the history of the trial and its media coverage, as well as their long-awaited exoneration in 2014. The story has even more of a sting attributed to a reported $85,000 ad calling for the teens’ execution by a currently relevant demagogue.

We’ll keep you posted on any newly released details, but be sure to keep your eyes open for what promises to be another revolutionary work by Ms. DuVernay.
