10 Brands to Support During Small Business Saturday

By now you’ve probably gotten tons of holiday deal/promo emails from nearly all major retailers. But amidst the Black Friday and Cyber Monday doorbusters, Saint Heron wishes to show some love to Small Business Saturday with a list of some of our favorite indiepreneur brands. From body care to sustainable underwear, you’ll find the perfect gift for a loved one or even something you can’t resist for yourself. Check out our small biz roundup below.

Natural Skincare

Hanahana Beauty

Hanahana Beauty

Fair trade, raw shea butter is blended with the most thoughtful selection of natural oils in a recipe by Hanahana Beauty for my personal favorite body butter ever. The Shea Body Butter melts into your skin instead of just sitting on the surface and contains Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Grapeseed Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Hemp Oil,  Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil and Rosehip Oil. The Shea Exfoliating Bar is also a lovely addition to bath time.

Folie Apothecary

Folie Apothecary

Handmade in small batches by Nikisha Brunson, the natural skin and haircare items from Folie Apothecary feel carefully crafted with love and good energy. Most items sell out quickly so it’s important to check the shop regularly for new and restocked items. The Honey and Marshmallow Root Shampoo bar and Prickly Pear Face Serum are staples in my self-care routine.

Foxie Bombs

Foxie Bombs Cosmetics

Bath bombs and face mists and everything else your bathroom routine needs can be found at Foxie. Winters in NYC are brutal on my sometimes dry skin so my main thing for hydration is Foxie’s Imperial – 24K Face Mask. It’s luxuriously smoothing and unbelievably hydrating. I can’t help but notice how much life and color returns to my dull skin after use. Reviews for the muscle relaxing bath salt are also pretty tempting.

Brown Crayon Project

The Brown Crayon Project

Someone finally remembered the babies. While the natural hair/skin care market targeting the needs of Brown people continues growing, there are few quality collections that aim to ensure baby skin needs are met. Brooklyn-based company The Brown Crayon Project is the creation of a mother who had an idea to fill the void after desperately searching for the perfect baby care line with no luck.

Fashion Apparel & Accessories

You’ve seen DBLEUDAZZLED creations in music videos, NYFW Runways and on all of your faves including Beyonce and Rihanna. The Diamond Girl fishnets are the perfect addition to any outfit and can be dressed up or down. DBLEUDAZZLED makes custom pieces so women and men of all sizes and shapes can kick up their accessories arsenal with anything from fishnets to full catsuits.

Rebel Citizen

Rebel Citizen

You’ve seen Whitney Alix’s work on HeyFranHey and Amandla Stenberg. Rebel Citizen’s clothing is comfortable, flattering and incredibly eye-catching. Even better, each item is handmade by Whitney Alix herself. The yoga pants are untouchable, but the entire Rebel Citizen collection is flawless.

Philadelphia Printworks

If you’re Black and proud, Philadelphia Printworks has the perfect apparel and/or accessory item for you to flaunt it. Whatever you want your wardrobe to say about you, PhilaPrint has it from crewneck sweatshirts to totes to iron-on patches for men and women.

These sustainable undies are ethically made in California. Light weight and comfy, all of your lady parts find a comfortable home in the underwear made entirely of organically grown natural fibers. Satisfyingly minimalistic from cut to color, my personal favorite item is simply the BRA. After a long day, your girls won’t even beg to be freed from this bra.

Pear Nova

Pear Nova

Chicago-based creative Rachel Leigh is responsible for these vegan nail lacquers that are as vibrant as their sassy names. Personal favorites “Lemon Drop Logic” and “Cleo F*ckin Patra”are my spring and fall go-tos (respectively). With proper base and top coats, the color is never dull and the polish itself never chips.

Black Butterfly Beautiful Subscription Box

By now, the importance of representation for Black women and girls especially is widely known. And while things are on the up-and-up on screen, there’s still much to be desired in print. The creators of Black Butterfly Beautiful subscription box curate monthly gift boxes filled with all things Black girl magic for the young ladies in your life. From nail polish to books, our girls deserve all the things that show they matter. There’s also a Black Dragonfly box for boys now available for preorder as well.

And of course, don’t forget to check out the variety of items in stock on our own Saint Heron Shop.
