A short two months after impressing us all with her debut solo album Fin, The Internet’s Syd has graced our sound-waves by channeling the forces of her angelic voice into a new track she calls “Treading Water.” As she metaphorically compares her distant love to the frightening sensation of drowning beneath the water she treads, the relatable lyrics follow the same beat of “Selfish,” a fan-favorite track from Big Sean and Jhene Aiko‘s Twenty88 collaboration. According to Syd, “Treading Water,” was originally intended for Fin. “This was my favorite song on #FIN before i had to cut it,” she tweeted.
