Audio: Mick Jenkins, “A Layover”

Chicago gem, Mick Jenkins has returned with a new self-written track titled “A Layover.” Wittily, Jenkins triumphs lyrically on what is both an anecdotal and satirical song. His almost effortless flow makes for the perfect pair with the smoky THEMPeople produced track. Jenkins tackles racial prejudice, his career, and more all on this two-minute cut.

Although we have not heard much from Mick Jenkins in 2017 besides his collab with Goldlink on “Pressed For Time (Crossed My Mind),” he has and is consistently proving that he’s one to keep watching; especially with lyrics like “five fights this week I do this…/first class got em lookin’ like who this…/I likely say drummer before rapper, I like to say writer before both/they won’t give me my respect, it’s more smoke they request.” As we wait for what’s to come from Mick take a listen to “A Layover” below.
